Plaques to Honor Our Military Men and Women

by | Nov 16, 2016 | 0 comments

This month we celebrated Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.  One celebrated the lives of those who fought so hard to preserve our freedom and rights.  The other is to celebrate all that you are thankful for in your life.  During these times there is a simple project that you can do to honor anyone you choose to.

For example, let’s take the mayor of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.  He wanted to do whatever he could to pay tribute to some of the men and women who fought for this country.  Specifically those who are housed in a assisted living center in his town.  Yes, he could have easily made a donation or just supplied them a meal, but the mayor decided to take it a step further.  For each of those military members he found out something special about them.   He wrote is up with a photograph attached and presented their special story inside a plaque.  Each of these men and women were presented their plaque at a special ceremony that took place in that assisted living center.  Some of them contained a newspaper article that was written about them.  Others got a collage of photos with the special story put together.  Regardless of what they received these men and women were grateful.   It proved to them that there are people who care for them and it gave them a memento to remind them of the day and the events involved.

This simple gesture is something that you can do yourself.  Nearly every community has an assisted living center or retirement village.  Go in there and learn about your neighbors.  Sit with them, hear their stories and be inspired by them.  Take the time to let them share photos with you.  From there sit down and write down what you learned.  Add photos to whatever you write about them.  Presenta Plaque has the perfect way to get that gift back to them.  Our plaque kits are not only pretty to look at but they are easy to assemble.  Once it is put together go back and present it to them.  It doesn’t have to be in a ceremony like the mayor of Chippewa Falls did, it can be through a personal interaction, just to show these people you care.

This doesn’t have to just be a Veteran’s Day project.  Take Thanksgiving for example.  A lot of people are hosting family and friends in their home.  Why not make a plaque that will not only serve as a place setting, but as a token of appreciation as well.  Perhaps you are hosting your parents, grandparents, nieces and nephews or even some friends.  In a day where social media is prominent there is plenty of access for people to get their hands on pictures and memories of these individuals.  Put together a collage of memories.  Add their name to the top and place it once again in one of our kits.  Place these plaques where they will be seated.  They will act as not only a place card, but they can help stimulate dinner conversation.  People will want to share their plaque and tell stories about the memories.  At the end of the evening they can take them home and it is a memento of the evening.  A sweet parting gift that was easy to make.

These plaques can be quite simple to put together and our kits are the perfect way to do it.  Check out our website for plaque options and order yours today!
