This year Boss’ Day lands on Wednesday October 16th. While it’s great to have one day especially for recognizing your boss, there are many ways to show appreciation throughout the year. If you are fortunate enough to have a kind, considerate, capable boss, it’s worthwhile to let him/her know you’re thankful for all his/her hard work because, well, they have some pull when it comes to you keeping your job…
Showing gratitude is not to be mistaken with kissing up. A great way to thank the big man/woman without seeming like you’re pulling for that big promotion is by collaborating with other co-workers. If you invite other associates to join in on the action, not only will it please everyone, but it will remind your boss that s/he is a truly appreciated member of the team.
A great way to congratulate your boss for a promotion, big success in the company or important life event (i.e. engagement, new baby, new house etc.) is a card. Though it seems minimal and somewhat obvious, one should never underestimate the power of a well-written, sincere card. It’s important to realize that this is an opportunity to say what you would like to say clearly and in the right moment.
For big successes related to the company, a plaque is a great way to express congratulations or gratitude. While your boss may have received their pat on the back from upper management, a plaque from his/her group is a great and more permanent way to let him/her know the team is supportive.
